Arthritis and the Body

There are many different types of arthritis that can strike at any given time and in any part of your body. Currently there are over 100 known types of arthritis, each with its own list of possible causes, symptoms and treatment. In this article, you can find out which types of arthritis are the most common and what you can do to help lower your chances of getting diagnosed with this sometimes debilitating condition that affects millions of Americans each year.
Common types of arthritis
There are two very common types of arthritis; the most common of those two is called osteoarthritis. It is caused by overuse of the joints, usually brought on by obesity, the process of aging and demanding sports, such as tennis, running or snowboarding. The usual symptoms are stiffness, pain when making quick movements and general aching in cold weather, among other things. The other most common type of arthritis, and considered the most painful of the two is rheumatoid arthritis. This condition is considered an auto-immune disorder and occurs when the immune system starts attacking parts of the body, usually the hands and feet. The symptoms include heat in the affected area, chronic fatigue and swelling.
What arthritis does to your body
Arthritis makes it hard for your body to move efficiently; it is almost as if the joints in your body are running out of oil. This condition can limit your physical activity, and in severe cases, can limit the use of your hands, fingers or other affected body part. It can limit your mobility so that you require assistance to complete even the simplest of tasks.
Arthritis can have devastating effects on your body and if left untreated, can cause you to lose your ability to move about freely. Check with your doctor if you think you might have arthritis or are exhibiting any of the symptoms mentioned above.
